In reply to your letter of the 7th instant

beg respectfully to inform you that (as you are aware) the cost of living in Hong Kong is so heavy and the proposed increment to my salary so small in proportion to same that your letter leaves me no alternative but to decline.

I will, therefore claim my return passage

for my self, wife and two children on the 13th April next in accordance with the terms of my agreement.
